The National Science Foundation STEM for All Video Showcase: COVID, Equity & Social Justice took place online from May 11–18, 2021. The Showcase is an annual online event highlighting hundreds of three-minute video presentations from federally funded projects that aim to improve STEM (Science, Math, Engineering, and Mathematics) and computer science education.
This year, research from the prior University of Nebraska–Lincoln (UNL) SEPA Biology of Human was included in the video “Addressing Social Issues through STEM” (supported by NSF Award 1906556). The video presentation summarizes results of a two-year effort to synthesize two decades of literature addressing how informal learning institutions advancing the use of STEM knowledge and scientific reasoning support engagement with contemporary social issue. The video includes the Biology of Human SEPA as an example of how an informal learning institution (i.e., the University of Nebraska State Museum–Morrill Hall) can effectively engage audiences with the issue of vaccines.
Worlds of Connections SEPA senior personnel Wendy Smith also presented at the STEM for All Video Showcase. The video presentation “AIR@NE: K–8 Computer Science” explores how the Adapt, Implement and Research at Nebraska (AIR@NE) CSforALL (Computer Science for ALL Students) project (NSF Award 1837476) provides professional development and other supports for teaching computer science to K–8 teachers.
